Colours of the Afghan Hound

Black

Black can come with white areas on the chest, toes and at times the very tip of the tail. Some black Afghans have a very blue tint to the skin when the coat is parted and some it is almost impossible to tell if they are solid black or black and dark brindle

Black and Tan

Black and tan, black and cream, black and silver, black and brindle, all variations of a coat pattern that often features a different colour on some or all of the following areas, the feet, chest, cheeks of the face, eyebrows and undertail area. Can at times be three colours if the chest area carries a heavy white flash with tan face and feet markings

Gold

Gold is a term that can cover many shades from a pale creamy gold to a very dark rich red gold. This colour can appear with black shading on the mask in varying degrees from none (self masked) to black to the hairline

Cream or Silver

One of the palest colours, this shade can vary from an almost apricot cream through to a silvery white. Can also appear with or without shading to the mask

Brindle

Distinctive for the 'tiger' striping the brindle colour can vary in shade from creams through to an almost black brindle. Can also appear with or without shading to the mask

Domino

This rarer colour is easily identifiable by the appearance of a 'widows peak' at the point where the long silky top knot and face meet. The mask is reversed and is paler than the surrounding head coat. Can come in shades from cream domino, blue domino all the way through to dark brindle domino

Blue

Again one of the rarer colour the blue can appear in varying shades from pale silvery blue through to a much darker colour
